Common Problems Pipe Lining Can Fix
Pipe lining is designed to be a fast, simple solution to an issue that used to be downright devastating: leaks or cracks in pipelines buried underground or built into your home’s foundation. Because pipe lining does not require completely excavating a damaged pipe, this process allows you to restore and rejuvenate a damaged pipeline without having to completely rebuild or remodel your yard in the aftermath. That means significant savings of both time and money in both the short and long term.
Here are some issues that pipe lining can fix:
- Main water line leaks
- Main gas line leaks
- Main sewer line leaks
- Cracked or corroded sewer lines
- Frequent tree root intrusions
- Water discoloration caused by corrosion
- Slow drains caused by buildup on pipe walls
Pipe lining can even help to re-stabilize and rejuvenate damaged water or sewer lines that are on the verge of collapse. When a pipe liner hardens, it creates a rigid and durable core that can help a worn-out pipe maintain its shape. This can help prolong the life of that pipe for additional decades!
How Pipe Lining Works
Pipe lining is a type of trenchless water or sewer line repair, meaning it does not require you to dig a giant trench to fix the problem. Instead, this process simply involves digging one or two small holes at the ends of the impacted segment of line so that our technician can feed a specialized tool down into the line itself.
During this process, a powerful winch pulls a resin-imbued liner into the impacted pipe. Once in place, they then inflate this line, helping it quickly swell up and fill the available space inside the pipe. The resin then cures, leaving it as a hard and durable channel that functions as a brand new water or sewer line. This curing process is also why pipe lining is sometimes called “cured-in-place” pipe lining.
Is Pipe Lining Right for My Home or Business?
Pipe lining may be a faster, more cost-effective, and less intrusive alternative to traditional pipe excavation. While most minor to moderate pipe damage or wear can be solved with pipe lining, pipe lining cannot solve some issues that might be inherent in the original pipe’s structure. For example, a line that has already collapsed cannot be fixed by lining simply because there is no pipe structure to fill any longer. Pipe lining also cannot fix bowed or bellied water or sewer lines, and it cannot fix other issues like improper sewer line slope or other construction errors. However, for the majority of properties, where the line may simply be showing signs of excessive wear and tear due to years or even decades of use, pipe lining may be the ideal choice for restoring full function of your water or sewer lines.
