Well Water Treatment in Englewood

Understanding Private Water Well Systems

A private well system can involve separate service categories, including well construction, pump work, testing, filtration and treatment, repairs, and abandonment. We provide private-well filtration and treatment through our plumbing services. Construction and certain other well-related work may require a Florida-licensed water well contractor.

Domestic & Irrigation Wells
Domestic wells supply water for drinking, bathing, cooking, cleaning, and other household uses. Irrigation wells supply outdoor watering systems. The intended use affects which conditions and system components require attention.

Shallow & Deep Wells
Shallow wells draw groundwater closer to the land surface, which generally makes them more susceptible to contamination than deeper wells. Depth alone doesn’t establish whether water is safe or determine the right treatment. Assessment or testing is needed to identify the conditions affecting a particular supply.

Well Pumps & Power Outages
Electric well pumps stop supplying water during a power outage unless the property has an appropriate backup power source. Repeated pump cycling, low pressure, or a complete loss of water can indicate that the well system needs evaluation. These symptoms don’t necessarily indicate a filtration problem, so the affected component should be identified before repairs or treatment are selected.

Water Well Permits & Placement Requirements

The Southwest Florida Water Management District requires permits for the construction, repair, modification, and abandonment of most water wells within the district. Wells larger than 2 inches in diameter must be constructed by Florida-licensed water well contractors. Permit requirements can depend on the planned work and the well’s specifications.

A contractor responsible for a permitted well must generally file a well completion report with the Southwest Florida Water Management District within 30 days after completion. This record documents details about the completed well. Property owners planning construction or modifications should confirm the applicable permit and contractor requirements before work begins.

Important placement requirements for single-family potable wells include:

• A 75-foot setback from septic tanks.
• A 75-foot setback from drainfields.
• A 75-foot setback from drainage or retention ponds.
• Well casing that generally extends at least 1 foot above the land surface.
• Well casing that generally extends at least 1 foot above the 100-year flood elevation when the well is in a flood zone.

Common Private-Well Concerns

Cloudy water, unpleasant odors, and changes in appearance can signal a problem that deserves assessment. Iron may cause staining or discoloration, sulfur is commonly associated with an unpleasant odor, and hardness results from dissolved minerals. Because these conditions have different causes, the appropriate system depends on the issue identified.

Charlotte County private well owners are responsible for testing and maintaining their wells’ water quality. The Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County conducts private-well testing when requested. Testing provides information about a sample, while an assessment helps determine which filtration or treatment approach fits the identified concern.
